Candidate FAQ

Straight answers about the work, the pay, the schedule, and who you actually work for.

What does a fiber sales representative do each day?

You work an assigned neighborhood where T-Mobile Fiber is already live. You knock, talk with homeowners about speed, price, and installation, run an address check, write the order at the door, and set expectations for install day. You then follow the order through until the install is complete, because that is when you get paid.

Is this door-to-door work?

Yes. This is residential door-to-door sales. You are outside, on your feet, walking a neighborhood five to six hours a day. It is not a call center, not retail, and not a desk job.

How is compensation calculated, and when is it paid?

Commission per completed install, between $75 and $250 depending on the speed tier and your experience. Paid weekly. There is no hourly base and no salary: this is 1099 commission-only work. At 1 Gig, ten installs in a week pays about $1,500 and twenty pays about $3,000.

Where will I work, and is travel required?

Current openings cover Charleston and Mount Pleasant, and Greenville and Spartanburg. Valdosta, Macon, and Columbus are accepting interest for future opportunities. You use your own vehicle for field work. Confirm the exact territory, driving requirements, and any travel with your recruiter before you start.

Do I need previous sales experience?

Previous fiber experience is not required. Experience in door-to-door, solar, security, roofing, pest control, or telecom can help. Ask the recruiter how onboarding and ride-alongs fit your experience.

Who provides training, and who pays me?

Your local team lead runs onboarding, scripts, and ride-alongs. You contract with Palmetto Energy Solutions, the authorized T-Mobile Fiber dealer behind The Fiber Guys, and Palmetto pays your commissions weekly.

Am I joining The Fiber Guys, a dealer, or the internet provider?

You are joining The Fiber Guys, the South Carolina and Georgia sales team of Palmetto Energy Solutions. Palmetto is an authorized T-Mobile Fiber dealer, and T-Mobile Fiber is the product you sell. You are not a T-Mobile employee.

Do you hire people with no sales experience?

You can apply without a fiber sales background. Tell the recruiter about your experience so they can assess fit and explain the onboarding, scripts, and ride-alongs available to you.

What happens after I apply?

A leader reviews your application and reaches out, usually the same day. The first conversation covers the market, the territory, the pay structure, and what the first two weeks look like. If it fits, you start onboarding with your local team.

What does it cost to start?

There is no franchise fee or starter kit. You supply a valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and a smartphone. Ask your recruiter about operating expenses and review cancellation terms in the dealer agreement.

Is there a path beyond selling?

Yes. Consistent producers can move into team lead and recruiter roles with overrides on the people they build. We promote from the field, not from outside.

What is the top rep week on the team?

About $13,000 in a single week, on our team. That is the top of the range, not a typical week, and it is not a promise. Most reps are paid on completed installs at their own pace.

Do you offer benefits or W-2 employment?

No. This is 1099 commission-only contract work. There is no hourly wage, no salary, and no company benefits package. If you need a guaranteed paycheck, this is not the right role.

Is this a fiber optic technician or installer job?

No. This is the sales side of fiber. You are not splicing cable, climbing poles, or installing equipment. You talk with homeowners, write the order, and hand the install to the technician. If you want hands-on fiber work, this is not that role.

What does the pitch actually look like?

Five steps, and reps run the same ones every day: open with credibility (badge, name, the fiber lines the neighborhood saw go in), find the pain the homeowner admits to, show the math against what they pay now, set the install expectation, then close and confirm the appointment. It is deliberately short so it holds up when you are nervous.

How does the training handle objections?

Palmetto U has 16 lessons on objections alone. You learn the difference between a smoke screen and a real objection, the taught response for each common one, and when to leave politely. Reps role-play the lines before they use them at a door, and ride-alongs let you hear them handled live.

What is Palmetto U?

The team's training program: 10 courses and 67 video lessons recorded by the people who sell fiber every day, covering the product, the pitch, objections, setting expectations, closing, live team calls, a field playbook, and the T-Mobile sales portal. You go through it before working a door alone, alongside ride-alongs with a leader.

Do I need to be pushy to sell fiber?

No. The method is a short, direct conversation: what the homeowner pays now, what they get with fiber, and what the install looks like. You are not chasing people who said no; you are answering the objection they actually raised and moving to the next door.
